Renewable Energy Sector

Castilla-La Mancha is one of the leading Spanish regions in terms of installed renewable energy capacity, with more than 13,000 MW, with a leading position in solar photovoltaic and wind energy. The region has characteristics that make it an attractive territory for attracting investments in the field of clean and alternative energy generation.

Competitive advantages

01

Favorable climatic conditions for solar and wind installations.

02

Availability of land.

03

Governmental commitment focused on clean energies. Positioning as one of the most important electric energy producing regions in the Iberian Peninsula, including solar and biomass technology.

04

New renewable directives that facilitate or encourage self-consumption and the generation, storage and sale of excess electricity, the installation and operation of storage systems, or remunerate the discharge of surplus energy into the grid.

05

86% of the region's installed capacity is already from renewable sources. More than 21,400 GWh of electricity will be generated in the region by 2024.

06

Existence of a critical mass of companies in the sector, both in wind energy, photovoltaic and hydrogen.

07

Specialized research centers such as the Renewable Energy Research Institute, the Industrial Development Institute of the University of Castilla-La Mancha or the Technological Support Center for Entrepreneurs, BILIB, as well as Instituto de Sistemas Fotovoltaicos de Concentración, S.A. - ISFOC and the National Center for Experimentation in Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies - CNH2, the only one in Spain and developer of the first hydrogen supply station in Spain.

08

Castilla-La Mancha already has a Renewable Hydrogen Roadmap, a regional agenda to drive the energy transition and position Castilla-La Mancha as a leader in renewable energies, with hydrogen as a key element.
