FM Logistic expands its Illescas platform to support new customers

By 25 November, 2019 July 3rd, 2020 No Comments
The first phase of the expansion of the FM Logistic platform in Illescas, Toledo, had concluded this same month of September.
This multi-client platform will be expanded with a new 10,000 m2 module that will accommodate new clients of the logistics operator and which will be added to the current 21,000 m2 facilities, inaugurated in 2018.
With this work, the platform will exceed the 30,000 m2 built, approximately a third of the more than 90,000 m2 it will have when all the expansion phases are completed.
In its construction, as in the existing part, the highest quality standards have been followed, which added to those of flexibility, sustainable construction, safety and comfort have achieved the LEED Golden certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), which accredits that the platform is built with eco-efficiency standards and meets sustainability requirements.
Growth of the workforce in Illescas
The expansion of the platform is accompanied by an increase in the number of staff working on this logistics platform, which this year will exceed 100 employees working in operations, in addition to the nearly 50 people who already provide their services in the central departments of Systems, Human Resources, National and International Transport, Administration and Sales.
A strategic platform for the Group
The platform of FM Logistic in Illescas offers significant characteristics and differentials, among them: the flexibility to the growth of the needs of its clients (either at L/P or for specific peaks due to seasonality in sales), the synergies of being in a multi-client environment or the advantages for transport due to its privileged geographical location. The platform is located in the barycentre of the Iberian Peninsula, which allows Iberian distribution in less than 24 hours, and less than 40 km from Madrid, which facilitates last mile distribution in the capital.
Strong growth in Spain and Castilla-La Mancha
FM Logistic has recorded strong sales growth in Spain in 2018-2019 in a bullish economic climate. The company published revenues of 74 million euros. This result is the consequence of the optimisation of the quality of service, the success of the platform in Illescas and the positive commercial pulse of the company.
In Castilla-La Mancha, FM Logistic also has facilities in Cabanillas (Guadalajara), which are also increasing their activity. The company has signed contracts with distributors Maxxium and Leroy Merlín who joined the Cabanillas platform in June 2018.
For a more sustainable supply chain
FM Logistic Group has prepared a sustainable development plan for 2022, with the objective of putting into practice its Vision: “Teams that develop solutions for a sustainable supply-chain, which contributes to the improvement of the quality of life”.
This sustainable development plan is based on three pillars: taking care of its people; developing sustainable supply chain services; and improving the environmental footprint of its activities.
In the area of people, three objectives are a priority in this plan: Ensuring safe and fair working conditions for all employees; improving their personal development and creating a corporate culture to involve all people in the current change.
For example, from the department of QHSE and Sustainability, they have been installed in all the centres that FM Logistic manages in Iberia defibrillators (DEA) and first aid and DEA use courses have been given to the emergency teams of each activity.
The second pillar highlights the challenges of helping customers make their supply chain more sustainable. The third front concerns the development of service offerings to accompany the transition to a low-carbon economy. To meet the needs expressed by its international customers, the Group plans to develop tailor-made solutions for urban logistics, warehousing and copacking.
“For FM Logistic, it is essential to create a sustainable ecosystem together. An ecosystem around the platforms with urban logistics as part of our clients’ global supply chain”, says Pablo Gómez, Director of FM Logistic Iberia. “Our mission is to be an international reference in the logistics market as a sustainable supply chain, therefore it is important to focus on concrete actions and tangible results.
FM Logistic’s sustainable development efforts have been recognized several times during 2018-2019. The company received a B from the CDP rating company for its environmental policy, well above the sector average with a D. FM Logistic improved its score from a C to a B and now ranks among the top 13 percent rated by CDP, regardless of country of origin and industry sector.
